Cardigan mens sweaters have been around for ages.  In fact, many people still associate cardigans with their parents, or, worse yet, their grandparents. 

This raises the question, is it really possible that cardigans could once again be cool to wear? 

After all, how could an item of clothing worn by grandpa really be cool?   After all, cardigans have been around forever.  Surely they must be dated by now, right?  They couldn't possibly be chic or grace the runways of Paris and Milan.

The simple fact of the matter is that cardigans have survived this long for a reason.  They are versatile, incredibly useful, and they actually can look great, especially in some of the latest designs and colors.  

There are simply so many different kinds of cardigans out there for sale, there really is a cardigan out there that's right for everybody.

Grandpa might well fall for a sharp wool cardigan for the country club,  Grandma will hit the mall in her new sweater off the rack from J.C. Penny.

Meanwhile the grand kids will find cardigans that are just right for them.  Back in the '90's, Curt Cobain and the grunge rock scene made plain, understated cardigans uber trendy. 

For this generation, far more colorful designs are all the rage.  Schoolgirls might like a tight, trendy cardigan from Abercrombie.  Their brothers might hit the club scene in chic designer cardigans from ADAM or Armani.

The cardigan mens sweater keeps passing the test of time, from generation to generation.  So just why has it had such staying power?

The Upside of Cardigans

Wool cardigans are nice and warm in the cooler months.  In addition, they can be worn in a wide range of situations, from a casual coffee house to a more formal gallery opening. 

They can be worn open during the warmer days of late spring, or buttoned up on blustery days of fall and even on the milder days of winter.

This versatility is one of the major factors in the cardigan sweater's staying power.  But another factor is that they have been updated with new designs an more vibrant patterns and colors.  They can, quite simply, look sharp.

So Are Cardigan Mens Sweaters Really Cool to Wear?

They can be cool, like most clothing items, when they come from the right designer and are worn with the right ensemble.  Of course, that boring old number that grandpa bought at Woolworth's for five bucks might never be cool.  But don't tell him that.
